Following UNILAG council’s appointment in October and winding up of the outgone VC’s tenure, Professor Toyin Ogundipe officially resumed duty on Monday. Earlier, on 28th of October he was appointed as the 12th Vice Chancellor (VC) of the 55 years old institution. He (Prof Ogundipe) emerged first and his appointment was confirmed immediately by the governing council.
Before this appointment, Prof. Ogundipe was UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research. In line with the guidelines for the appointment of VC, three candidates were finally nominated for the position namely, Prof Ogundipe, Prof Olukayode Amund, former Dean, Students Affairs and Prof Ayodeji Olukoju, former VC of Caleb University.
Hitherto, Prof. Ogundipe was UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Research. The new VC took over as Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) from Prof Babajide Alo on April 1, 2016. He was appointed as Professor in 2002, was also the Director of Academic Planning and a member of many scientific organisations.
Meanwhile, the new VC has promised to look into the mix feelings that greeted the University’s 2017/18 merit undergraduate admission list by parents, students and other stakeholders. Authoritative source has it that a high-powered committee has been set up to review the cut-off as well as the list and the publishing online and offline would be clinical and error-free this time. He has urged stakeholders to exercise a little more patience that merit would be the other of the day while other considerations like Catchments, Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) and other criteria would be used fairly for all applicants. He also hinted on timely release and high level of professionalism and transparency in future shortlisting exercise. He has promised to make students and members of staff the focal point of his government. Students and members of staff complaints would be looked into when this come up.
The reviewed merit list which would be out next week to be followed immediately by Supplementary list.
